Septic System Emergencies

Emergencies with your septic system are never fun. Emergencies all have one single reason that can have many different causes. The flow of your home’s waste water through your system has slowed or stopped. This blockage in flow causes the waste water to back up. When it backs up and water is still going down the drains in your home the waste water has to go somewhere. Depending on where the blockage is in your system you might see a “wet spot” on your lawn from your tile field, your pump chamber or your septic tank. You might also see sewage back up in your home. In these cases it is important to know your system before you have a problem. Does your system have an effluent filter? Is there a sewage pump in your system? If it does have a pump where is the pump located and does it have an alarm to indicate there is a problem with it.

The first step if you are experiencing a problem with your system is to stop using water in the home until the problem is solved.
